How To Cure Writer's Block - A Writer's Cure

Have Writer's Block? Yeah, It happens sometimes.

Writer's block happens a lot, especially if you are a constant writer who depends on writing as income. It really gets frustrating to write when you can't think straight. I get writer's block quite a lot. I can stare at my laptop for hours on end and have nothing but a blank Word Pad screen. I think that a lot of writers, like myself, get frustrated simply because they started worrying about the income more than the passion to write. I'm currently trying to get back to my old writing mojo (before I realized I earned income from writing) and get back to how it made me relax and de-stress myself.

My own personal ways to cure writer's block

Of course, the question still stands "how do you cure writer's block?" I think the answer is pretty simple. Stop TRYING to cure writer's block. Pretty much, you need to use reverse physiology on yourself. Stop trying to write, stop trying to understand why you can't write. Stop it all together. Take a break and do something that you enjoy that might give you inspiration.

Personal Ways That I Cure My Writer's Block

Writer's block for me is like remembering to find my keys daily. It happens a lot and it happens often. I also don't realize that I'm having a moment with writer's block and I tend to think I suck at writing. While, at times I know that's not the case, I still tend to be too hard on myself. So at that point, I close my laptop and refuse to open it again. But then I remember after trying one of the below mentions of how I cure my own writer's block, that I'm not a crappy writer -- I'm just tired or stressed or distracted.

Try not writing. I did this for 7 months and I STILL had writer's block. It was a pretty sad time in my life. However, I decided to put on my big girl pants and stick to it. I also discovered that writing shouldn't be about keywords or key phrases - it should be writing about what I WANT. So I did that, and I'm still doing that. BUT -- I did take 7 months off. In that time, I started a new life. I found a nice place to rent, I worked on my fitness, and I also branched out and found that writing is not the only way to earn money online. I just missed that part of my life.

Stop blaming yourself. I did this and I still do this when I have writer's block. I think that my mind has just crapped out enough that I can't focus to write. But in reality, sometimes I'm just too tired or too stressed to write. Other times, I really have other important factors that I should be concerned about instead of writing online. You need to find balance in your life, but don't blame or be hard on yourself for not being able to type out that article at night. Give yourself a break.

Workout, it's good for you! I discovered that when I have writer's block -- the BEST thing I can do for myself is to workout. Go outside and go for a walk, do some Yoga, get on a treadmill and sweat or even do some old-fashion push-ups. Yes, it does work. Working your body helps relieve some stress off your mind. For me, it's running. The more I pound the pavement, the better I think and feel. When I get done with one running session, I feel like I could write a novel. Sweating does help writer's block. So go work on your fitness a little more often.

Have a drink and relax. While I'm not saying that you should consume alchohol on a nightly basis of writing, but on the nights that you are stuck and in a rut, yes drink up! There is nothing like a little liquid courage to get your thoughts going rapid. Pour a glass of wine or crack open a beer, you might find that you just needed a little bit of relaxation to help you unwind.

The most important thing that you can do for writer's block is to stop worrying about actually having writer's block. If you cannt write, don't waste time trying to. Instead of worrying about why you can't write - take up another activity that might give you inspiration. Just remind yourself that every writer goes through the same experience and it will pass - eventually.
